I guess it depends when you arrive as to how fast the checkin is. We arrived at 11p.m. and were checked in very fast and wisked off to our room.It was lovely, just like the picture.Only thing not working was the safety deposit box .Service came very fast to fix, just a new battery.
We were so pleased with our suite location, step to the beach and all 3 restaurants, very quiet away from childrens location. This credit goes to the travel agent knowing what we wanted out of this vacation and booked just what we requested.
Thanks to these reviews I learned several tricks which we used..we were happy taking our own beach towels to mark our beach chairs early in the a.m.,use a towel under your head who cares about the lounge cushions;go to the business office 9a.m to book restaurants,we got 4/6 nights but it doesn't matter because you get mostly the same menue at lunch,we preferred La Gondola(serves breakfast 5a.m. to 11)0pen 24 hours, also El Tocororo for fine dining even lunch 1-4p.m.,Laguna wasn't our favorite, seldom ate at the main buffet, didn't like the grease smell;we knew Cuba wasn't known for it's good food so we found it better than we expected; went to the 10a.m info airtransat upon our arrival but found it a waste of time, just promotions for tour excursions, would have preferred more info on resort ;we placed items on the pillow for the maid each a.m. and she was very efficient and pleasing decorating our bed with towels in boat wave formation, hearts etc.;we tipped a peso as much as neccesary elsewhere.
The grounds are immaculate, gorgeous. We didn't see any bugs of any kind! Lots of birds but no messes??How great is that.Great for walks resort and beach.10p.m.outdoor show done by staff was very enjoyable. We found the staff very friendly and so affectionate with each other with kisses, hugs ,hand shakes all around with greeting each other or leaving work.
Nightlife is very quiet so wouldn't think good for late teens or 20's.We went to the disco a couple of times but pretty low key.
We knew what kind of a vacation we wanted and were prepared so the Tryp was all we expected good and the bad.Had a great time and again appreciate our home and country!
Tryp was all we expected if you want beach, relaxation, beauty.

I had a blast there. This was the best place that i've been at, and i've been all over the southern Caribian. Mexico, Key West, Jamica, San Juan, Domincan and now Cuba. I've never been there before, but i love it there and i won't go back to Dominican. Cuba rocks.
First off, the people there don't swarm you like in Dominican to buy something or to Barade women's hair.
The resort was awesome and huge. There was so much to do there that two weeks would have been great. I only saw to gecco's ( baby lizards) in the gardens of the resort and they had this amazing blue strip on them that i've never seen before, and they don't like staying around for pictures. So there was no harm done. No bugs in my room like in Dominican, like ants or cockroaches and they filled my bar fridge every day with pop, water, and beer. What could be better. The pool was awesome and we swam every day and night after we finished at the bars. The food was awesome and non of the eight of us got sick at all because of it. I got sick twice in Dominican out of three times. The weather was amazing and there was no smell to the island, like in dominican. The sands on the beach were great and while snokeling just off the beach area, we saw a sting ray, huge star fish and other small fishes. It was great. I loved this resort and have no worries about going back. The entertainment was great too. The staff rocks if you want to have fun with them that is. I did. They have a great kids pool to keep the kids to one side and adults at the adult pool. Which i liked, cause we were all just there to have fun, drink, eat, party and be happy. The restaurants were wicked and the bufetts were awesome too. Unless your from Europe or you have an adittude or you go there already with an additude like your better then everyone else, then you may want to bring your own servents if your use to having people wait on you hand and foot, cause down there people have feelings too and need to be treated with the same respect as given to you. Leave your additudes at home and relax.
I loved this place and i love Cuba. Chow....

We just got home from Tryp and it is lovely. This was our fifth trip to Cuba and I would rate this resort the best. I was worried after reading the complaints about this place. Let me tell you, I can understand why some travellers may complain about this place.... Maybe because the would complain about winning the lottery. Please.!!!!
Just for fun, I watched the level of service people recieved at the pool bar. I for one always got great service. I couldn't understand all the complaints about the staff until I witnessed people slapping the bar for service, snapping thier fingers, glaring, pushing in line, and other similar rudeness. I would take my time serving people like that myself. Too Funny!!!!!

My family stayed at the Tryp for two weeks arriving home on 7th April. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Yes no holiday is perfect but it is nowhere near as bad as people are making out.
Take a tip from us when you land expect to take a long time to go through passport control. Take some pounds sterling with you and change it up at the airport. You will not be charged commission. You then have pasos to get a taxi to the hotel. get you rep to speak to the driver and arrange a fee before you get in. Our Taxi cost 35pasos. not alot to pay as you get to the hotel first and then the check in staff are not overloaded and are alot more helpful, especially if you want to change the room they have given you.
Bungalows 27, 28 & 29 nearest the beach if that is what you want. we stayed in 28 and was perfect for the beach.
Go to the Business Centre as soon as you can (open between 9am - 5pm) to book the a`l carte restaurants. Tocororo and La Gondola are the best book as many as you can there. La Laguna is fine but it is a set menu so make sure you like what they will be serving.
Don't expect all your drinks to be cold especially the wine in the buffet restaurant it will definatly be warm. The buffet food is fine and there are plenty of waitress' although some of them let the others down as they ignore you and only want to serve with a tip!
There is plenty of variety in the buffet and freshly cooked meats and fish on the griddle. expect to que at peak times if you want freshly cooked meats. further up there is always a joint of some meat or salmon being carved this is very nice and worth having. but remember cubans like alot of salt so expect to taste this in every meal.
Breakfast at the buffet is fine there are very friendly chefs who will cook you a fresh omlette of fried eggs and plenty of choice to eat. Again expect to que if you want a egg cooked fresh to your liking.
alternatly you can eat breakfast at La Gondola. no reservation needed. this restaurant is open 24 hours and you can eat lunch there and at Tocororo without reservation with the same menu as the evening.
lunch at the buffet is pretty simular to dinner if you want something different go to La Laguna just off the beach for hot dogs, burgers and chicken. but spaces are limited there and it gets busy.
The lobby bar staff are friendly but there are not enough of them. again expect to que, Cuans do not see the need to be quick or hurry, as we have found out. if you are lucky enough to get waitress service don't hold your breath as this could still take 20minutes. again they all expect to be tipped.
All this apart, the rooms are lovely and spacious the bathrooms are great seperate shower to bath altough there still is a shower attachment in the bath. plenty of hot water at any time of the day. if anything the water can get too hot. the shower is a good one and fairly powerful.
The maids are brlliant very overworked but they leave you towels in all shapes on your bed which is quite nice to see.
we left goody bags out on the bed for the maid with miniture hairsprays, free make up samples that you are often given here, pens, pencils etc. as toiletries, biros & note books etc can be expensive for them.
The Beach is lovely but gets windy in the afternoon. if you want a cushion for the sun loungers this is near on impossile. this lets the hotel down badly as they only have a few. so you go to the beach and reserve your spot and along comes a guy to help you set the loungers up, you now offer to pay him if he finds you some. we got 4 it cost me 10 pasos in the end but it was worth it to lie in comfort for 2 weeks.
Do the catamarn trip it is great ond you will have an anazingly tasty fresh lobster for 10 pasos.
you will have a great time enjoy yourselves as we did and remember don't gt stressed with the Cubans laid back attitude you are on holiday after all!
